It seems that fortune has not stopped smiling on talented music act, Temilade Openiyi, otherwise known as Tems, after she featured in Wizkid’s song “Essense“.
The profile of the graduate of Economics has continued to rise and she has gained more experience and exposure by performing alongside big names in the music industry. Thanks to her for collaboration with Wizkid, one of the biggest music acts Nigeria has ever known.
Wizkid’s image as a Grammy Award winner had not only changed her fortune but also help to improve her ranking on the international scene. The moment Essense becomes a hit in the United States, Tems also becomes a force to reckon with globally. The song also earned her a place on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart as it became the first afrobeat record to enter the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Just recently the song got certified gold in the U.S.
Tems has also been named by Black Entertainment Television (BET) as the amplified international artiste in the month of August and the next big thing to watch out for in the music industry. She was recently seen hanging out with Canadian rapper, Aubrey Drake Graham, more popularly known as Drake, after she was featured in Fountains, one of the hit songs from his album titled Certified Lover Boy.
Born in Lagos to a British-Nigerian father and a Nigerian mother, her family moved to the United Kingdom shortly after she was born, but her parents separated when she was just five years old. She began to show interest in music at the age of seven after seeing Beyonce on television. Tems attended Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos before acquiring a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. She quit her marketing job in 2018 and released her debut single titled, Mr Rebel.
The singer’s first recorded song earned her two Headies nominations in 2019 as Best Alternative Song and Best Female Vocalist Performance. Her nest song, Try Me, had over seven million streams on Audiomack. She has also featured in Know your worth, a single by American singer, Khalid Donnel Robinson, also known as Khalid.
