Who needs Shaggy when you have the great Buju Banton? That seems to be the question being asked in Rihanna’s camp after it was revealed that Shaggy refused to do an audition to see if his material was up to par for what Rihanna wants to deliver in her upcoming album, R9.
Shaggy might have refused to audition for Rihanna but 18 Karat Reggae has learned that among the reggae and dancehall artists who will be on R9 is the great Buju Banton.
18 Karat Reggae had also learned that Buju Banton did not have to audition but instead Rihanna made an extra effort to make sure Buju was on her album.
According to sources, while Buju Banton was performing in Rihanna’s home country, Barbados on his Long Walk to Freedom tour, she attended the show and met Buju Banton backstage. It was during this meeting that Rihanna explained to Buju how important it would be to her if he could bless her album with a feature. We understand that Buju was excited for the opportunity and answered yes to Rihanna’s request that very same night.
Rihanna has been teasing with her upcoming album for some time and a release date has still not been public.
The Jamaican gleaner says that while reggae fans are eagerly anticipating the Reggae album by Rihanna, it is had to imagine any reggae album reach the level of 18 Karat Reggae Gold 2020.
